At what age can I take my puppy home?

All pups are allowed to go home with their new owners after they have had their proper worming, first round of shots, and dew claws removed.

What should I do with my pup when I get it home?

All puppies will be nervous and feel a great amount of stress in their new surrondings. Remember, the puppy has been with its mother and sibilings for the first six weeks of its life. Now they have a whole new world. Some things to look for; PANTING, which can lead to drinking of a little more water than normal, and therefore can lead to urinating in the household. LOOSE STOOL, for this we recommend that you purchase cottage cheese. Give your pup cottage cheese for the first 36 hours as this will help ease your pup's nervous stomach. Gradually add dog food to the cottage cheese for the next 24 hours. You should be good after this point and time.

What color of labrador is best?

In our opinion the black and the yellow labradors are the best. After training blacks, yellows, chocolates, and many other various breeds I had the best luck with black and yellows. My findings are that their desire to please their master seems to run greater in those two, more than any other. Mind you that I am not cutting down the others, it is just my personal experience. The black labrador was the original color, then came yellow, then all the rest. (side note: Fox Red, Cinnamon and white are considered to be yellow when it comes to their registration).

Why SLH versus another kennel?

In my raising of labradors for the past 20 years, I have actively searched for clean genetics. Dogs whose parents have had excellent hips and eyes. This constant search has benefited us greatly, not only with our dogs but also with the puppies that we sell.

Which is the best, Male or Female?

There is no difference in intelligence when it comes to training between a male and female. The biggest thing to watch for here is that you buy a good quality dog with a good pedigree. A male will want to mark his territory, once he is finished you should be good. Some females will also mark their territory as well.  When females come into season, (heat cycle), you will have another 21 days that you have to keep the males away. So it is just a matter of personal preference.
